Hours and Compensation
We have full schedules during the fall semester and fewer students during the spring and summer. Seeing as classes fluctuate over the course of the semester, mentors are not guaranteed a certain number of classes. That being said, as mentors we teach approximately 50-60 hours of class per month in the fall (August - January), 30-40 hours per month in the spring (February - May) and 20 hours per month in the summer (June - July). Most mentors teach all their classes on zoom in the afternoons from Monday to Thursday. Mentors may also choose to work on the weekend or during academic breaks, but this is not required.
Mentors are paid $750 MXN per hour for pathways (our academic orientation program) and college guidance classes, $700 MXN per hour for test prep classes, and $600 MXN per hour for academic support classes.
Ideally, we’re looking for mentors based in Mexico City, since every Wednesday, our mentors participate in paid professional development in-person team meetings in the Condesa area. Meetings are two hours long and mentors receive $500 MXN for attending. In these meetings, mentors support one another with school lists, essay revisions, and current challenges with students. Additionally, mentors will have the opportunity to participate in the development of our social justice workshops and nonprofit projects. Mosaico offers and prioritizes comprehensive on-going training for new mentors.
